The Alka are a mostly peaceful race of mechanized beings. Whether they somehow evolved naturally or were created by another race in the centuries before interstellar travel is unknown. The Alka were the first race to develop interstellar travel. They passed for centuries undetected due to their highly evolved defensive and cloaking technologies. After they had assessed the races of their galaxy they decided that in order to obtain more data on the varied species they would need to see them interact with each other. So, in what was seen as an extremely generous move, the Alka released all of their drive technologies to the other races of the galaxy.
